Governor Gavin Newman’s Monday announcement to tighten the COVID-19 restrictions in California has been the topic on everyone’s minds. He announced that Orange County, Ventura County, and other Southern Californian counties will have to go back to the most restrictive purple tier restrictions seen to date.
This happened after Orange County a reported 639 new COVID-19 cases–being the highest number of daily coronavirus cases since mid-August. Right now, 94% of the counties in California are in the purple tier.
In the Governor’s statement, he said: “We are sounding the alarm,” Newsom said in a statement. “California is experiencing the fastest increase in cases we have seen yet — faster than what we experienced at the outset of the pandemic or even this summer. The spread of COVID-19, if left unchecked, could quickly overwhelm our health care system and lead to catastrophic outcomes.”
The county officials have encouraged residents to wear face masks and follow safety protocols as a way of curbing the spread of the pandemic.
Many activities can still take place, but all with modifications. According to abc7, here are the purple tier restrictions and guidelines:
- Retail stores: Open indoors at 25% capacity.
- Malls: Open indoors at 25% capacity with food courts closed
- Worship places, Zoos, Gyms, Movie Theaters, Museums, Restaurants, Wineries, Family entertainment centers: Outdoor only.
- Nail Salons, Electrolysis, Hotels, Tattoo parlors, Personal care services: Open with modifications
- Bars and Breweries, Schools, Theme parks: closed
